Don’t needlessly waste time on money on enhancements to your home that do not make your home more marketable to potential buyers. If you are upgrading your home in preparation to sell, you need to focus on improvements that are desired by buyers. There are three interior finishes you can invest your time and money that will provide great returns.

1.     Hard surface countertops

Quartz is huge right now, and everyone loves the sleek look. Quartz in non-porous making it more resistant to staining than other hard surface countertops like granite, marble, or concrete. The low maintenance makes it very attractive to the busy home-owner.

2.     Solid wood flooring

Sprucing up a home with wood flooring is another great investment and is one homebuyer’s love to see. We are not talking about Pergo, bamboo, or laminate, only solid wood or pre-finished and engineered hardwoods will meet the standards of today’s buyers. Anything with a hand scraped look is desired and will give the home some added dimensions.

3.     Light and bright colors

Color schemes go in and out of style and can vary from year to year. Light and bright colored paint, tile and cabinetry are in right now and are very attractive to buyers. If you have an outdated kitchen or a small bathroom, putting in light cabinets, light paint, and light backsplash will make the room feel bigger and will be a lot more appealing to a huge demographic of people.

If you are thinking of selling in the next one to two years, be strategic with the money you are putting into your home and focus on the finishes the buyers are looking for. You want a high return on investment for every penny you are spending.
